Shoes and Spikes, Before the Season Starts

A runner in worn-out shoes gets hurt. Spikes are what they race in. Both wear out on schedule, and the schedule does not care what August costs a family.

We are raising $1,450 so that about five Carson City-Crystal runners start this season in shoes that fit and spikes that grip. Training shoes are $160 a pair, race spikes $130 — $290 for a runner properly shod.

Nobody is asked to prove anything. Families tell us quietly that it would be difficult, we cover it, and the rest of the team never knows which is which. That is the whole arrangement.

This one is urgent in a way the rest of the season is not. The first meets are weeks away and shoes bought in October are shoes that did not prevent an injury in September.

IF WE RAISE MORE THAN WE NEED

The balance stays with the program and goes to the next runners who need help. It does not go anywhere else.

Every mile starts with an opportunity. Thank you for giving our runners theirs.

Other ways to help

Know someone who would help?

Passing this on does more than anything else we can do.

Are you a runner this is meant for?

This is what the money is for. If cost is what is standing between you and the season, ask us — it takes a couple of minutes and nobody outside our board sees it.

Ask for support

Do you run a business?

A sponsor can cover this whole campaign and put their name on it. Shoes, spikes, a seat on the bus, a place at camp — you pick the thing, we tell you exactly who it reached.

Sponsor a season

This is where the photos end up

Camp, meets, results and the things that do not make it onto this website. If you have given, it is the easiest way to see what it paid for.

FOR BUSINESSES

No business has put their name to this season yet.

Sponsorship here buys a specific thing, not a logo slot — a pair of spikes, a seat on the bus, a week at camp. We tell you exactly what yours paid for, and your name sits on the campaign it funded.
