Text message reminders
Program name: The Distance Project board reminders.
Who gets them: only the volunteer directors of The Distance Project, a Michigan nonprofit corporation, and only after each one signs up for texts. Donors, families, athletes and the public are never texted.
How a director signs up
- Signs in to the board platform at thedistanceproject.org and opens Text reminders.
- Enters their mobile number and checks the consent box: “I agree to receive board reminder texts from The Distance Project at this number. About one a day at most while something is waiting on me. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.”
- Presses Text me a code and enters the 6-digit code we text them. Texts start only after the code is confirmed.

What we send
- Documents waiting for the director's signature.
- A payment waiting for the director's approval.
- The day before a board meeting.
Examples:
- “The Distance Project: 2 documents are waiting for your signature. About 2 minutes each: https://thedistanceproject.org/...”
- “The Distance Project: Board meeting tomorrow at 5:00 PM. Packet: https://thedistanceproject.org/...”
How often: varies, at most about one a day while something is waiting. Message and data rates may apply.
